Why are both temperature and texture important for a patient’s food?
Food temperature affects comfort, acceptance, and the risk of burns or discomfort. Texture is equally important because a patient may have difficulty chewing or swallowing; an unsuitable texture can increase choking or aspiration risk and reduce intake. A suitable consistency and safe serving temperature therefore support comfort, safety, adequate nutrition, and recovery.
