Solve the inequality (5-\frac{x-3}{2}\ge \frac{3x+1}{4}).

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: \(x\le 5\)

Multiplying both sides by the positive number 4 does not change the inequality sign: \(20-2(x-3)\ge 3x+1\). Simplifying gives \(26-2x\ge 3x+1\), or \(25\ge 5x\). Dividing by 5 gives \(x\le 5\). The close distractor \(x<5\) is incorrect because \(x=5\) also satisfies the original inequality. Exam tip: the inequality sign remains unchanged when multiplying or dividing by a positive number.
