If (x\in\mathbb{Z}) and (\frac{x-3}{2}>1), what is the least integer solution?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: (6)

For a strict inequality, the boundary value is not included. Since the variable is restricted to integers, after solving the inequality we must choose the first whole number that satisfies it. This is different from simply rounding without checking the inequality.

From \(\frac{x-3}{2}>1\), multiply both sides by the positive number 2, so the sign does not change: \(x-3>2\). Adding 3 gives \(x>5\). Integers greater than 5 begin with 6, so the least integer solution is 6. The value 5 is not allowed because it makes the left side equal to 1, not greater than 1. Option A is correct.
