How can geographical isolation help in speciation?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: It reduces interbreeding between groups and allows different changes to accumulate

Geographical isolation separates populations through barriers such as mountains, rivers or distance. Because the groups meet and interbreed less often, gene flow between them decreases. Mutations, inherited variations, natural selection and genetic drift may then produce different features in the separate environments. If reproductive isolation eventually develops, the populations may become distinct species. Thus option A is correct; isolation does not instantly remove genes or cause universal sterility.
