Shape

Correct answer: A. In a science and technology poster

Correct answer: A. Geometric shapes have clear boundaries and an organised appearance, which can suit a science and technology poster about subjects such as machines, measurement or engineering. Natural bushes, clouds and waves usually have more irregular, organic forms, so an abundance of exact geometric shapes may feel less appropriate for depicting them.

Correct answer: A. Naturalness and organic variety may be weakened

Correct answer: A. Leaves vary in size, angle, edges and overlap, even when they belong to the same type of plant. Drawing every leaf as an identical shape can make the image look repetitive and less natural. Shape repetition does not automatically create texture or determine the colour scheme.

Correct answer: A. Because it readily suggests nature and living things

Answer: A. People commonly associate a leaf shape with plants, growth, and the natural world, so it can communicate an environmental idea quickly. Organic shapes can be used in both two- and three-dimensional art, and colour can also be used in symbols.

Correct answer: A. The warning may seem less sharp or urgent

Answer: A. Soft, rounded shapes can suggest gentleness or comfort, which may conflict with the urgency often intended in a warning. This effect is not absolute: colour, wording, and context also affect how the sign is understood. Shape does not automatically change the colour or complete the space.

Correct answer: C. While showing the freedom of natural clouds

The correct answer is C: geometric shapes can weaken the mood when the artist is trying to show the free, changing character of natural clouds. Geometric shapes such as circles, squares, and triangles have regular, measured, and controlled boundaries. Clouds are usually understood through organic, irregular, soft, and changing shapes. If they are drawn with rigid geometric edges, the image may feel artificial, mechanical, or restricted instead of airy and free. A is not the best answer because machines can be supported by precise geometric forms. B benefits from clear regular shapes because signs need quick recognition. D also suits geometric shapes because building plans depend on measured structure. The lesson is not that geometric shapes are bad; their suitability depends on the subject and intended feeling. Memory cue: geometric means controlled; organic means natural and irregular.

Correct answer: B. Silhouette and shape identity are weak

The correct answer is B: the silhouette and shape identity are weak. A logo should communicate a recognisable visual identity through its basic structure, outline, proportion, and arrangement, not only through colour. Testing a logo in black and white or as a simple silhouette helps reveal whether its form can still be identified. A is not necessarily the problem; a logo may use several colours and still have a strong shape. C is irrelevant because changing paper size does not repair the design’s identity. D is also unsuitable because texture is usually not the primary recognition tool in a clear logo. If colour removal causes the logo to disappear as an idea, the designer may have depended too heavily on colour contrast. The appropriate improvement is to simplify and strengthen the contour, spacing, and distinctive shape. Memory cue: a good logo should pass the silhouette test.

Correct answer: A. Use a strong symbolic shape or an effective negative-space cue

The correct answer is A. A distinctive symbol or a meaningful relationship between a shape and its surrounding space can give a poster a memorable visual identity. The text should remain legible; changing paper thickness or shrinking the text does not make the message more memorable.

Correct answer: A. Round shapes can reduce sharpness of warning

Direct answer: A is correct. Shape communicates mood and function before the viewer reads words. Rounded, soft shapes are often associated with gentleness, friendliness, or comfort, so they may not express urgency or danger as strongly as clear angular shapes. A is carefully worded: round shapes can reduce the sharp warning effect, but they do not always do so; colour, contrast, symbols, and context also matter. B is wrong because “always” is too absolute and reverses the likely effect. C is wrong because shape is important in signs. D is wrong because shape is not merely a value-making device. Memory cue: choose a shape whose visual mood matches the message.
