आबद्ध जलभृत में पारगम्य चट्टान-परत के ऊपर और नीचे अभेद्य परतें होती हैं। इसलिए इसमें संचित भूजल दबाव में रहता है और कुआँ खोदने पर जल ऊपर उठ सकता है। मुक्त जलभृत का ऊपरी भाग वायुमंडल के संपर्क में होता है, इसलिए वह ऊपर से अभेद्य परत द्वारा बंद नहीं होता। परीक्षा टिप: ‘दो अभेद्य परतों के बीच दबावयुक्त जल’ दिखे तो उत्तर आबद्ध जलभृत चुनें। / A confined aquifer is a permeable water-bearing rock layer enclosed above and below by impermeable layers. The groundwater is therefore under pressure and may rise in a well. An unconfined aquifer has an upper surface open to atmospheric pressure, so it is not capped by an impermeable layer. Exam tip: choose confined aquifer when groundwater is trapped under pressure between two impermeable layers.
