Trotsky's connection with organising the Red Army shows which need in the Civil War?

Correct answer: Disciplined military leadership and defence of new power

The direct answer is option A: disciplined military leadership and defence of the new power. After the October Revolution, the Bolshevik government faced the Civil War and needed an organised force to defend its authority against opponents. Trotsky is associated with organising and leading the Red Army, so the fact points to the need for disciplined military organisation. Step by step: a civil war creates armed threats; an unorganised force cannot defend territory or follow a common plan; the new government therefore needs recruitment, training, command, discipline, supplies, and coordination; Trotsky’s role in the Red Army represents this need. Option A is correct. Option B is wrong because the Tsar’s religious leadership does not explain the Bolshevik organisation of the Red Army, and the Tsar had been removed from power. Option C is wrong because returning Church property was not the military requirement shown by the fact. Option D is wrong because the Constituent Assembly’s full power was a separate political issue, not the reason for organising the Red Army. Remember: Trotsky and the Red Army are a standard historical association; in a Civil War, organised military leadership is essential.
