How did literacy campaigns help Bolshevik state building?

Correct answer: They spread new ideology and state messages

The direct answer is B: literacy campaigns helped spread the new ideology and the state’s messages. Literacy means the ability to read and write. When more people could read, the government could communicate laws, political ideas, newspapers, posters and official instructions to a much larger population. Education also helped the state train officials and create citizens familiar with socialist language and goals. The reasoning is: a new regime needed people to understand and support its programme; widespread reading made communication and political education easier; therefore literacy assisted state building. B is correct. A is wrong because literacy campaigns were not designed to preserve the Tsar’s family history or authority. C is wrong because education did not mean stopping agriculture; peasants and farming remained important. D is wrong because reading campaigns did not create a foreign army; they supported communication and administration inside the state. This does not mean every educated person automatically agreed with the government, only that literacy increased the state’s ability to reach people. Memory cue: literacy lets a state reach minds through words, laws and messages.
