Why did both attraction and fear exist regarding Soviet Russia?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: Because it promised equality but also showed political control

The governing concept is the contradictory international response to the Soviet experiment. Soviet Russia attracted workers, poor peasants and anti-colonial activists because it claimed to abolish old class privileges, promote equality and build a society based on collective interests. At the same time, observers and political opponents feared one-party dominance, restrictions on dissent and strong state control over public life. Attraction and fear could therefore exist together: people might admire the promise of social justice while criticising the methods used to protect the new regime. Option A correctly captures both sides. The Tsar was not restored, colonial rule was not the central achievement, and saying that no change occurred is false.
