Why did colonial administration give little importance to local traditions in the Bastar rebellion?

Correct answer: Because its aim was to see forests as resources for revenue and control

The direct answer is A: colonial administration viewed forests mainly as resources for revenue and control. Colonial officials wanted to regulate forests, obtain valuable timber, support railways and other commercial needs, and collect revenue. Their administrative system therefore treated forests as property to be surveyed, reserved, managed, and controlled by the state. Local people, however, understood forests through customary rights, livelihood, culture, and community use. This difference in viewpoint explains why local traditions received little importance. Option A is correct because it describes the economic and political purpose behind colonial forest policy. Option B is wrong because the administration was not writing all local traditions into a constitution. Option C is wrong because colonial control generally restricted village independence rather than aiming to make villages fully independent. Option D is wrong because the colonial administration did not see forests only as worship places; it mainly valued timber, revenue, and administrative control. The question tests a contrast: community view of the forest versus colonial commercial and administrative view. Remember: colonial forest policy meant revenue, timber, and control.
