Why is failure to pass the budget considered so serious for the government?

Correct answer: It may show lack of financial and political support in Lok Sabha

Correct answer: A. The budget presents the government’s proposed income and expenditure, and government spending requires legislative approval through the appropriate financial procedures. Lok Sabha has special importance in financial matters because the government must secure the support of the directly elected House for taxation and expenditure. If the government cannot obtain approval for its financial proposals, this may show that it lacks either the numbers or the political support needed to govern. It therefore raises both a financial and a confidence issue. Option A is correct because it connects budget approval with financial control and political support in Lok Sabha. Option B is wrong: failure to pass a budget does not automatically dissolve Rajya Sabha. Option C is constitutionally unrelated; the judiciary does not become the executive. Option D is also unrelated to budgetary approval. A useful caution is that constitutional financial procedures are detailed, so the exact consequence depends on the proposal and parliamentary situation. Memory cue: “No financial approval can mean no governing support.”
