Rajya Sabha is generally known as what?
Answer and explanation
Correct answer: A — Rajya Sabha is the Upper House of the Indian Parliament. It is also called the Council of States because it represents the states and Union Territories at the national level. The two Houses have different constitutional positions and functions. Lok Sabha is called the Lower House or House of the People, while Rajya Sabha is the Upper House. Option A is correct because it is the standard name used to distinguish Rajya Sabha from Lok Sabha. Option B is wrong because the Lower House is Lok Sabha. Option C is wrong because a Gram Sabha is a village-level local democratic body, not a House of Parliament. Option D is wrong because a Municipal Council is an urban local government institution. Rajya Sabha is a continuing House, unlike Lok Sabha, which is subject to dissolution, although individual Rajya Sabha members complete fixed terms. Memory cue: Rajya Sabha is the Council of States and the Upper House; Lok Sabha is the House of the People and the Lower House.
