A student says that because the teacher criticised one idea, the teacher must consider him incapable. What thinking error is this?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: Assuming another person's thoughts

The student has evidence that one idea was criticised, but no sufficient evidence about the teacher’s complete opinion of his ability. Assuming another person’s thoughts is often called mind reading. A better response would ask for specific feedback and separate criticism of one idea from judgement of the whole person.
