A student gives many correct facts in an oral answer but ignores the main instruction in the question. Why may marks be lost?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: The answer is not relevant

The governing concept is relevance: an answer must satisfy the task word or instruction, not merely contain true information. If a question asks for a comparison, explanation, or reason and the student only lists facts, the response may fail to perform the required action. Therefore, it can be judged not relevant to the question's demand. Clear pronunciation and numerous facts cannot compensate for missing the central instruction.
