What problem may occur from repeatedly brushing the same watercolour area?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: Paper fibres may weaken and the colour may become muddy

The governing concept is overworking a watercolour passage. Repeated brushing disturbs the wet pigment, can lift or roughen the paper fibres, and may mix separate pigments into a dull, muddy colour. Hence option A is correct. It does not normally make the wash brighter or the paper smoother, and the brush bristles do not become stiff simply because one area is brushed repeatedly. Use light strokes and allow a layer to dry before revisiting it.
