What is the major dietary goal in protein energy malnutrition?
Protein-energy malnutrition involves inadequate energy, protein, or both. Dietary management therefore aims to restore sufficient energy and high-quality protein, along with vitamins, minerals, fluids, and appropriate medical care. Feeding is increased carefully and progressively according to age, severity, tolerance, and monitoring; merely adding salt, restricting water, or stopping all pulses does not correct the underlying problem.
