In which condition is it necessary to discuss absorption along with iron sources?
Preventing iron-deficiency anaemia requires attention not only to the amount of iron in foods but also to how well the body absorbs it. Haem iron from animal foods is generally absorbed more readily, while vitamin C can improve non-haem iron absorption from plant foods. Tea, coffee and some phytates may reduce absorption when consumed with meals.
