Communication Systems

Connectivity is the degree to which places are linked through transport, communication and networks. Its governing idea is flow: better roads, railways, ports, air routes and digital systems reduce barriers and allow people, goods, money, information and ideas to move between regions. Option D is correct because it states the principal geographical function of connectivity. Connectivity does not necessarily increase distance or separate regions; it usually improves interaction and accessibility. It also does not automatically exhaust resources, although transport and communication systems can create environmental impacts that must be managed responsibly.

Accessibility means the ease with which people, goods or information can reach a place or move from it to other places. It depends on factors such as distance, travel time, transport availability, cost, route quality and communication links. Option C is correct because it gives the direct meaning of accessibility. Elevation, soil and age may describe characteristics of a place, but they do not by themselves define how easily that place can be reached. A high place can still be highly accessible if it has good roads, while a low place may be isolated if connections are poor.
