Urban Settlements

An urban settlement is generally marked by a relatively high concentration of population, built-up land, infrastructure, and diverse economic functions. Manufacturing, trade, transport, administration, education, health care, finance, and other services are usually more prominent than farming. Option D is correct because it identifies the dominance of non-farm activities and services. Some urban areas may contain gardens or limited agriculture, but that does not define their main economic character. Options A and C are opposite to the usual urban pattern, while B wrongly reduces urban activity to farming alone. The concept concerns the dominant function, not the complete absence of agriculture.
