What is the rule for underlining a scientific name when it is handwritten?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: Underline both words separately

Correct answer: B, underline the two words separately. A binomial scientific name has two parts: the genus name first and the specific epithet second, as in Homo sapiens. In printed or typed text, the complete scientific name is usually shown in italics. When it is written by hand, italics are difficult to display, so each of the two words is underlined separately. A is wrong because one continuous underline does not show the conventional handwritten format. C is wrong because both parts of the binomial name require the marking. D is wrong because the convention should still be indicated in handwriting. Also remember that the genus begins with a capital letter, while the specific epithet begins with a small letter.
