Reflex action

In Class 10 Science, the topic Reflex Action explains how the body responds rapidly and automatically to a stimulus, often before the brain can process it fully. Students learn the pathway of a reflex arc: receptors detect a change, sensory neurons carry the impulse to the spinal cord, relay neurons connect it to motor neurons, and effectors such as muscles produce the response. Examples like quickly withdrawing a hand from a hot object show how this protective mechanism works, while the brain later receives information about the action.

  1. The stimulus will be detected, but the response may be blocked
  2. The effector will respond immediately without receiving a message
  3. The receptor will never detect the stimulus
  4. Hormones will stop entering the blood

  1. Cerebrum
  2. Medulla
  3. Cerebellum
  4. Tongue
View options
  1. Reflex action is fast and involuntary while voluntary action is linked with will and thought
  2. Reflex action always occurs in plants
  3. Voluntary action is never linked with the brain
  4. Both are controlled only by hormones
View options
  1. Receptor then sensory nerve then spinal cord then motor nerve then effector
  2. Effector then motor nerve then brain then receptor then sensory nerve
  3. Spinal cord then receptor then effector then sensory nerve then motor nerve
  4. Receptor then blood then hormone then effector then spinal cord
View options
  1. Spinal cord forms the message and muscle pulls the hand away
  2. Pancreas forms message and retina pulls hand away
  3. Root forms message and skull contracts
  4. Thyroid forms message and ear digests food
View options
  1. Because spinal cord works as a quick control centre in reflex arc
  2. Because spinal cord makes auxin
  3. Because spinal cord lowers blood sugar
  4. Because spinal cord forms pollen tube
