Why was Operation Bagration and D-Day occurring in the same year disastrous for Germany?
The governing historical concept is the opening and intensification of two major European fronts against Nazi Germany in 1944. The Allied D-Day landings in Normandy on 6 June created a powerful western front, while the Soviet Union’s Operation Bagration, launched later that summer, destroyed much of Germany’s Army Group Centre on the eastern front. Germany therefore had to defend against large, coordinated offensives from opposite directions while its manpower, equipment and strategic reserves were under severe strain. The other options contradict the historical outcome. Hence option A correctly explains why the simultaneous pressure was disastrous.
