ओस तब बनती है जब पृथ्वी के निकट की सतहें रात में ठंडी होकर अपने ऊपर की वायु को ओसांक तक पहुँचा देती हैं। जलवाष्प इन सतहों पर छोटी जल-बूंदों के रूप में संघनित हो जाती है, इसलिए ओस संघनन का सतही रूप है। पाला भी सतह पर बनता है, लेकिन वह जलवाष्प के सीधे बर्फ के क्रिस्टलों में जमने पर बनता है; इसे अलग रूप में पढ़ा जाता है। कोहरा और धुंध वायु में निलंबित बूंदों के रूप हैं। परीक्षा टिप: सतह पर जल-बूंदें दिखें तो उत्तर ओस चुनें। / Dew forms when surfaces near the ground cool at night and bring the adjacent air to its dew point.
