कपूर गर्म करने पर बिना द्रव अवस्था में आए सीधे वाष्प में बदल जाता है और ठंडी सतह पर फिर ठोस कपूर के रूप में जम जाता है। रेत उर्ध्वपातित नहीं होती, इसलिए कपूर और रेत के मिश्रण को उर्ध्वपातन द्वारा अलग किया जा सकता है। नमक-पानी के लिए वाष्पीकरण, तेल-पानी के लिए पृथक्करण कीप और दूध-पानी के लिए उर्ध्वपातन उपयुक्त नहीं है। परीक्षा टिप: उर्ध्वपातन तभी चुनें जब मिश्रण का एक ठोस घटक उर्ध्वपाती हो और दूसरा न हो। / On heating, camphor changes directly from solid to vapour without passing through the liquid state, and it deposits again as solid camphor on a cool surface. Sand does not sublime, so a mixture of camphor and sand can be separated by sublimation.
