Why was the Weimar Republic not named after the capital Berlin?

The Weimar Republic was the democratic government established in Germany after the First World War. It received its name from the city of Weimar because the National Assembly that prepared and adopted the new constitution met there in 1919. Berlin was still the capital, but the political situation in Berlin was disturbed and unsafe for this constitutional meeting. Naming the republic after Weimar therefore referred to the place where the new constitutional order was worked out, not to the country’s capital.

Option A gives this historical reason correctly: the constituent assembly met at Weimar. Berlin was certainly part of Germany, so option B is false. Weimar was not Germany’s currency and was not the name of an army, making options C and D unrelated. The name is thus a reminder of the constitutional assembly’s location and the beginning of Germany’s postwar democratic phase.
