The governing concept is that a severe economic crisis can produce political instability. During the Great Depression, mass unemployment weakened people’s confidence in the Weimar Republic because the government appeared unable to provide jobs or security. Economic suffering therefore changed voting behaviour and made radical parties, including the Nazis, seem attractive to many desperate voters. Nazi propaganda promised work, national recovery and decisive leadership, turning social frustration into electoral support.
