Why did the Great Depression of 1929 increase Nazi support?

Unemployment and insecurity pushed people toward harsh solutions

The Great Depression began in 1929 and caused severe economic hardship in Germany. Businesses failed, unemployment rose and many families lost income and security. People became disappointed with existing political parties because they seemed unable to solve the crisis. In this atmosphere, the Nazis promised decisive leadership, national recovery and simple, forceful solutions, which attracted some voters even though their promises were dangerous and discriminatory.
