After the Reichstag building was set on fire in February 1933, Hitler’s government blamed communist enemies, although the circumstances remained disputed. President Hindenburg issued the Reichstag Fire Decree, which suspended important rights such as freedom of speech, freedom of assembly and privacy of correspondence. The police could arrest opponents, especially communists, and the Nazis used this repression to weaken resistance before further constitutional changes. Therefore option A is correct.
