Who joined the Jacobin Club in large numbers?
Answer and explanation
The Jacobin Club attracted large numbers of people from the less prosperous urban classes, including small shopkeepers, artisans and workers. They supported opposition to monarchy and demanded greater equality and political rights. Wealthy nobles and high clergy were generally associated with the old privileged order, so they were not the Jacobins’ main support base. Exam tip: Remember the Jacobins as a radical, popular group of the French Revolution.
