Why was taking the shehnai to the classical stage culturally important?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: It gave respect to folk and auspicious tradition in high art.

The governing concept is cultural elevation and recognition. The shehnai had traditionally been associated with weddings, religious occasions and other auspicious public ceremonies. Through Bismillah Khan’s exceptional musicianship, it was heard on prestigious classical stages and recognised as an instrument capable of depth, technical variety and serious artistic expression. Option A is correct because it explains how a familiar folk and ceremonial tradition gained dignity within high art while retaining its cultural roots. Options B and C state the opposite of the chapter’s message: the shehnai was strengthened and respected, not ended or weakened. Option D wrongly limits the influence to film music.
