Why do leaders have to consider people's choice in democracy?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: Because people can change them by vote

In a democracy, leaders receive authority from the people and must remain answerable to them. Elections give citizens a practical way to express approval or dissatisfaction. If leaders ignore public concerns, citizens may vote for another candidate or party at the next election. This possibility encourages leaders to listen, explain their actions and consider public preferences, even though they may still need to make difficult decisions for the common good.

Option A is correct because voting allows people to change their representatives. Option B wrongly describes democratic leaders as kings, while C denies citizens' rights. Option D is opposite to the situation because this accountability exists precisely through elections. Public choice is therefore linked to representation, competition, accountability and the peaceful transfer of political power.
