Qualities and functions of an entrepreneur

Correct answer: B. Willingness to learn

Customer feedback provides information about satisfaction, problems and possible improvements. An entrepreneur who listens without defensiveness can learn from this information, correct weaknesses and improve the product or service. Stubbornness rejects useful evidence, while fear or indifference avoids engagement. Therefore willingness to learn, option B, is demonstrated.

Correct answer: C. Resource management

Resource management means planning, allocating and using available inputs efficiently to achieve business goals. Raw materials are physical resources, employees are human resources and money is a financial resource. Proper use reduces waste and supports productivity. Avoiding work, promotion alone and copying do not describe the management of these different inputs, so C is correct.

Correct answer: D. Decision-making ability

Decision-making ability is the capacity to compare alternatives, use relevant information, judge likely consequences and select a suitable course of action. Timing matters because a useful decision taken too late may lose its value. Drawing, music and rest are unrelated activities, so D directly answers the question. Good decisions need not have complete certainty.

Correct answer: A. Forecasting

Forecasting is the systematic estimation of future conditions such as customer demand, sales, costs, staffing or materials. It helps an entrepreneur prepare resources and make more realistic plans, although forecasts can never remove all uncertainty. Quitting, complaining and remaining inactive do not estimate future needs. Therefore A correctly identifies the function.

Correct answer: B. Continuous learning

Continuous learning is the habit of gaining knowledge, practising skills, seeking feedback and improving over time. Repeated practice shows that the entrepreneur is willing to develop rather than assume that current ability is sufficient. Arrogance resists correction, while laziness and fear reduce practice. Hence B best describes the quality shown in the question.

Correct answer: C. Responsibility

Responsibility means accepting ownership of one’s actions and their results. A responsible entrepreneur can acknowledge a mistake, inform the relevant people, correct its effects and learn how to prevent repetition. Greed, stubbornness and confusion do not encourage accountable behaviour. Therefore responsibility is the quality that supports honest acceptance and improvement, making C correct.

Correct answer: D. Division of work

Division of work means breaking a larger activity into tasks and assigning them to people according to their skills, roles and available time. It can improve specialization, coordination and efficiency when responsibilities are clear. Customer service, advertising and shopping may be business activities, but they do not name the act of distributing duties among employees. Thus D is correct.

Correct answer: A. Flexibility

Flexibility is the willingness and ability to modify plans, methods or expectations when business conditions change. It does not mean accepting every change without thought; it means responding constructively after considering the situation. Carelessness, fear and ignorance do not support informed adjustment. Therefore accepting and responding to business change demonstrates flexibility, A.

Correct answer: B. Marketing

Marketing includes understanding customer needs, communicating product value, promoting the offering, arranging distribution and supporting exchange. Explaining benefits helps customers understand how the product may solve a problem or meet a need. Advertising can be one marketing tool, but marketing is broader than advertising. Auditing, stopping production and storage do not perform this communication function, so B is correct.

Correct answer: C. Team spirit

Team spirit is the willingness to cooperate, share responsibilities, respect different abilities and work toward a common goal. Entrepreneurship often requires collaboration with employees, customers, suppliers and partners, so this quality supports coordination and results. Isolation, fear of competition and laziness discourage joint effort. Therefore C is correct.

Correct answer: D. Quality control

Quality control is the process of checking whether a product meets defined standards for performance, safety, consistency and customer requirements. Testing a finished product can identify defects before it reaches the customer and can guide corrective action in production. Sales, rest and travel do not inspect product standards. Therefore D accurately names the function.

Correct answer: A. Alertness

Alertness means noticing changes, unmet needs and problems in the surrounding environment and thinking about their significance. An entrepreneur can convert such observations into possible products or services, after checking whether the idea is feasible. Laziness, indecision and confusion reduce attention and delay action. Hence alertness, option A, is the relevant quality.

Correct answer: B. Courage

Courage helps an entrepreneur face uncertainty, accept responsibility and make a necessary decision after considering evidence and possible consequences. It does not mean acting blindly or ignoring danger; thoughtful courage differs from carelessness. Sadness and laziness do not provide the required willingness to act. Therefore B is the correct quality.

Correct answer: C. Customer service

Customer service continues after or alongside a sale by answering questions, receiving complaints and providing a fair solution or support. Effective complaint handling can protect trust, reveal product problems and improve customer satisfaction. Production planning, fund collection and recruitment may also be business functions, but none directly describes resolving a customer’s complaint. Hence C is correct.

Correct answer: D. Recruitment

Recruitment is the process of attracting and selecting suitable people for available jobs in an organization. It may involve identifying requirements, inviting applications, assessing candidates and choosing those whose skills fit the work. Pricing, packaging and selling concern the product or market, not the selection of employees. Therefore D is the correct function.

Correct answer: A. Goal orientation

Goal orientation means directing attention, decisions and effort toward clearly defined results. A goal-oriented entrepreneur can set priorities, plan steps, monitor progress and adjust methods while keeping the desired outcome in view. Confusion, laziness and indifference weaken direction and commitment. Therefore having clear goals most directly demonstrates goal orientation, option A.

Correct answer: B. Backup planning

Backup planning means preparing an alternative course of action before a difficulty occurs. If the original supplier, process, or sales plan fails, the entrepreneur can use the second plan and reduce interruption. Daily accounting records transactions, sales promotion attracts customers, and decoration changes appearance, so none of them is the best answer.

Correct answer: C. Pricing

Pricing is the function of deciding how much customers should pay for a product or service. An entrepreneur considers production cost, customer demand, competition and the value offered before selecting a suitable price. Recruitment concerns appointing workers, storage concerns keeping goods safely, and training develops employees’ skills; none of these primarily determines the selling price.

Correct answer: D. Training

Training is the planned process of teaching employees the knowledge, skills, methods, and safety practices needed for their work. It can improve accuracy, confidence, productivity, and service quality. Advertising communicates with the market, financial management handles money, and customer service supports buyers; none directly means teaching employees.

Correct answer: A. Accountability

Accountability means accepting responsibility for one’s decisions, actions and their results. An accountable entrepreneur reviews what happened, acknowledges success or mistakes, and takes corrective steps instead of blaming others or ignoring the outcome. Fear, laziness and neglect do not represent responsible conduct, so accountability is the only option that matches the stated quality.

Correct answer: B. Purchasing

Purchasing is the business function of identifying requirements, selecting suppliers, ordering materials, and arranging their receipt. Raw material is bought so that production or service work can continue. Sales deals with customers, advertising promotes offerings, and recruitment selects workers; therefore ordering from a supplier is purchasing.

Correct answer: C. Empathy

Empathy is the ability to understand another person’s feelings, viewpoint, and needs. It helps an entrepreneur listen to customers and employees, identify genuine problems, and build respectful relationships. Arrogance, rigidity, and carelessness make understanding others more difficult, so empathy is the appropriate entrepreneurial quality.

Correct answer: D. Storage

Storage means keeping finished goods or materials in a suitable, secure place until they are needed or sold. Good storage protects quality, reduces damage, and helps maintain stock records. Training develops workers, marketing promotes products, and accounting records financial transactions; the described activity is storage.

Correct answer: A. Reliability

Reliability means that people can depend on an entrepreneur to do what was promised, within the agreed time and conditions. Consistently keeping promises builds trust, strengthens reputation, and encourages repeat business. Greed, confusion, and instability do not describe dependable behaviour, so reliability is correct.

Correct answer: B. Competitor analysis

Competitor analysis involves studying other businesses, their products, prices, strengths, weaknesses, and customer approaches. The findings help an entrepreneur identify opportunities and improve a business lawfully; it does not mean copying blindly. Stopping work and storage do not describe market comparison, so competitor analysis is correct.
