Why will a white object appear unclear if it is left without light tones and shadows?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: Its surface and volume will not be visible

The governing concept is that form is shown by changes in value, not by local colour alone. A white object still receives different amounts of light across its surface, so subtle half-tones, a shadow side and a cast shadow describe its volume and position. Without these values it merges with the white paper and appears unclear; option A is correct. It does not become black, bend the paper or break the pencil.
