Why may a line seen behind glass appear slightly bent?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: Because of refraction of light

The governing concept is refraction. When light travels from air into glass and then back into air, its speed and direction can change at the surfaces. The eye may therefore see a line behind the glass as displaced or slightly bent, making option A correct. The paper border and pencil length do not alter the path of light, and an object’s name has no visual effect. In drawing, record the apparent position and distortion that is actually observed.
