Why is knowing tradition not against creativity in art?

Tradition provides a base and the artist can transform it into new meaning

The governing concept is the productive relationship between tradition and innovation. Traditions provide artists with visual languages, stories, techniques, symbols, materials, and shared cultural references. Creativity does not require forgetting these resources; it can reinterpret, combine, question, simplify, or transform them for a new audience and a new situation. An artist may therefore respect a traditional form while changing its scale, colour, purpose, medium, or message. Option D is correct because it recognises tradition as a foundation rather than a prison. Option A is impossible, B makes an absolute claim about creativity, and C confuses learning from tradition with mechanical copying.
