The governing concept is art as a broad form of communication and expression. Beauty is one possible artistic aim, but artists also use images, forms, colours, materials, and symbols to communicate sorrow, protest, hope, fear, identity, conflict, memory, or social questions. Some powerful works may intentionally appear disturbing, unfinished, or uncomfortable because their purpose is to make viewers think rather than simply please the eye. Option A is correct because it recognizes the emotional, intellectual, and social range of art. Option B narrows art to decoration, option C wrongly places technique above feeling, and option D excludes subjects that are not beautiful or natural.
