Why does a white object appear cool under blue light?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: The light source casts a blue tint on the object

The governing concept is reflected light and perceived colour. A white surface reflects much of the light that reaches it; when the illumination is mainly blue, the reflected light is also dominated by blue wavelengths. Therefore the surface appears blue and visually cool. The pigment has not permanently changed, and its physical temperature need not fall. Option A describes the lighting effect, whereas B, C and D confuse appearance with a permanent physical change.
