Why does a road or railway track look narrower as it goes far away?

In perspective edge lines appear to converge

The governing concept is linear perspective. A road or railway track has edges that are nearly parallel in actual space, but the image formed in our view represents greater distance with a smaller visual scale. As the edges recede, they appear to move closer together toward a distant vanishing point. The space between them therefore looks narrower, even though the real road or track has not physically reduced in width. Option A correctly describes this apparent convergence. Option B is false because the actual object does not become smaller. Option C is false because the effect occurs in ordinary viewing and drawing, not because the paper bends. Option D is false because colour loss is not the cause of the narrowing. Converging edge lines are a standard depth cue.
