Why are an abstract painting and an objective photo both visual arts?

Both are mainly understood through visual experience

Visual art is defined primarily by the way a work is received through sight, not by whether it copies reality accurately. An abstract painting may use colour, line, shape, texture, and spatial relationships without showing a recognizable object. An objective photograph may record a person, place, or event with a stronger resemblance to the visible world. Despite this difference in representation, both present visual forms that the viewer examines with the eyes. Option A states the shared basis correctly. B and D classify them as sound or movement arts, while C contradicts the visible marks, shapes, and images present in both. The governing concept is sensory mode: visual art can be realistic, abstract, symbolic, or documentary.
