Balancing unequal shapes through visual weight

Balance in visual art means distributing visual weight so that a composition feels stable. It does not require mirror symmetry. A large, dark, colourful, or centrally placed shape may have more visual weight than a small, pale, or distant shape. An artist can therefore balance unequal shapes by adjusting their position, size, colour, or number. This is called asymmetrical balance when the two sides are not identical.
