When does shape dominance occur in a picture?

The governing concept is dominance, a compositional principle in which one visual element becomes the main focus. A shape may gain dominance through greater size, strong colour contrast, a distinctive outline, central or strategic placement, or extra surrounding space. Option A is correct because these qualities make the shape attract attention before the other shapes. Option B may create consistency or unity, but identical shapes do not automatically establish one dominant shape. Option C and option D cannot produce dominance because they provide no visible shape to lead the composition. Dominance should also be balanced with supporting forms; if every element competes equally, the viewer may not know where to look first. Thus attention, not merely presence, determines dominance.
