When can imbalance in art increase expressive power?

Balance in composition often creates stability, order, and visual calm, but balance is not an absolute requirement for meaningful art. An artist may deliberately place forms unevenly, leave one side visually heavy, or create an awkward gap to communicate insecurity, danger, loneliness, conflict, or psychological disturbance. In that situation, imbalance becomes an expressive device rather than a failure of technique. Option A is correct because it connects the formal arrangement with an intended emotional meaning. Option B is wrong because deliberate imbalance need not be an error. Option C is irrelevant, and D describes equality of shapes rather than expressive imbalance.
