What problem occurs when every contour in a still life is made equally dark?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: Edge variation according to depth and light is lost

The governing concept is varied edge quality. In a convincing still life, some contours are sharp and dark where an edge is close, turned away from the light, or strongly separated from the background; other edges are softer or partly lost. Making every contour equally dark gives all parts the same emphasis, flattens depth, and makes the drawing rigid. It does not improve colour, proportion, or ellipse construction.
