What problem can occur if an artwork has very little negative space?

Negative space is the empty area around and between the main shapes in an artwork. It helps separate forms, gives the eye a place to rest, and makes the composition easier to read. If there is very little of it, shapes may press against one another and their boundaries may become difficult to distinguish. The result can feel visually crowded even when many individual shapes are well made.

Option A is correct because too little empty space may make the composition look cluttered. It does not guarantee that every shape will be clear or that balance will always be correct. Option D is the opposite effect: a picture with too much empty space may feel empty. Therefore, suitable breathing space supports clarity and visual comfort.
