What may appear wrong when the base levels of objects are inconsistent in a still-life drawing?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: Objects may appear to float instead of resting on one ground plane

In still-life drawing, the ground-plane concept links every object to a common surface. If the bases do not share a believable level, or if contact shadows are misplaced, the eye cannot tell where the objects rest. Therefore, they may look as though they are floating. Equal base levels do not make objects round, balance values automatically, or erase the background.
