What is the main reason black ink is added separately in printing?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: Mixing three colours often does not give a clean deep black

Commercial colour printing commonly uses CMYK: cyan, magenta, yellow and black. In theory, cyan, magenta and yellow can absorb much of the visible spectrum, but real inks are imperfect and their combination often produces a muddy dark brown or grey rather than a strong neutral black. A separate black ink gives deeper shadows, sharper text and more economical coverage, so B is correct.
