Symmetry means that parts of a form correspond in a balanced way. In a simple example, if a shape is divided along a central line, the left and right sides may match or closely mirror each other. Symmetry can also involve balance around another axis, but at this level the important idea is equal or orderly correspondence rather than random difference. A butterfly, a simple mask, or many regular geometric forms can show this quality.
