What effect occurs if all three visible planes of a cube are drawn in the same tone?

Answer and explanation

Correct answer: The cube will appear flat

A cube appears three-dimensional because its planes face the light at different angles and therefore receive different values. The light-facing plane is usually lighter, the side plane has a middle value, and the less-lit plane is darker. If all three are given one identical tone, these value relationships disappear, so the edges no longer communicate turning in space and the cube looks flat. Equal tone does not increase depth or lengthen the cast shadow.
