An oval is a closed shape with a smooth, continuous curved boundary. It looks similar to a circle, but it has been stretched in one direction, so its length is usually greater than its width. The shape is rounded rather than pointed and does not have the straight sides of a square. Recognising these visual features helps us distinguish an oval from other basic shapes used in art and design.
