Exaggeration and distortion are related forms of artistic departure from ordinary appearance, but they are not identical. In exaggeration, the artist intentionally amplifies a selected quality—for example, making a feature larger, a pose more energetic, or a curve more pronounced—so that emphasis or character becomes clear. Distortion changes the expected shape, structure, or proportions of the form; it may stretch, compress, bend, or rearrange them to express emotion, tension, symbolism, or imagination. Distortion is therefore not automatically a mistake. Option A is correct because it preserves this distinction. B reduces both ideas incorrectly to size or colour, C contradicts their definitions, and D describes realism instead.
